8 Steps to Connect Brother MFC-6490CW as a Shared Printer

Connecting a shared printer to the Wi-Fi network allows users in the network range to print text documents, images, or other graphics. The Brother MFC-6490CW multifunction printer comes with an inbuilt wireless printer server; thus you don’t need to obtain an external adapter or connect your all-in-one printer to the network via a particular PC. To set up the Brother printer as a shared printer, you require changing its Wi-Fi settings and connect your printer to every PC linked to the network. For adding your printer, you should try to follow these steps before contacting the Brother Customer service experts.
Step 1 – Insert the Brother installation disk into the system’s drive if you have not already installed the software. Continue with the on-screen guide to install the BRAdmin Light application.
Step 2 – Go to the ‘Start’ menu and click the ‘All Programs’ section. Click the ‘Brother’ icon, followed by the ‘BRAdmin Light’ software. Double-click on the ‘Brother MFC-6490CW’ option in the list of available devices.
Step 3 – Press the ‘Menu’ button on the control panel of your printer. Press the down arrow key to find the ‘Print Reports’ option and then press the ‘OK’ button. Move down to the ‘Network Config’ section and then hit the ‘OK’ button.
Step 4 – Click the ‘Black Start’ option to print the network configuration that shows the IP address of your printer. Go to the ‘BRAdmin Light’ software window and click the ‘Static’ radio button.
Step 5 – Input the IP address into the related text field. Choose the ‘OK’ option. Go to the control panel of your Brother printer and find the ‘Network’ option. Press the ‘OK’ button.
Step 6 – Navigate to the ‘WLAN’ option and then press the ‘OK’ button. Go to the ‘TCP/IP’ menu and then the ‘Boot Method’ option. Choose the ‘Static’ option, and then the ‘OK’ button.
Step 7 – Use any of the computers connected to the Wi-Fi network. Go to the ‘Start’ menu and then click the ‘Network’ section.
Step 8- Click the ‘Add a Printer’ button, and then the ‘Add a Network Printer’ button. Follow the guidance to connect your printer to the list of available network-based printers.
However, if all else fails and you may not be able to add your Brother MFC-6490CW all-in-one printer as a shared printer, it’s advised to call on the Brother Printer technical support number to know the step-by-step instructions to set the printer up in an efficient manner.
Tips
Relying on how you have configured your Wi-Fi network, the name of the printer might not be found in the BRAdmin Light window. It may be listed as the ‘Unconfigured Device.’ If you’re using the wired connection, connect a cable to the port on the back of your printer. Attach another end of the cable to one of the listed ports on your router. Configure the software in the same method as usual, but select the ‘Wired’ option rather than ‘WLAN’ option in the ‘Network’ section of the control panel of your printer.
